Don't you pimp out my heart

I know I've blogged about the band, Of Montreal before- but I couldn't resist writing another post about their newest album, Skeletal Lamping, that came out last summer. I swear to god I've been listening to the entire album at LEAST once every day (for months!). And I've have listened to it dancing around my apartment MORE than twice. :-)

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you haven't checked out this album yet- DO IT! It will blow your mind.
How could anyone resist these guys?

Buon Appetito!

This weekend I went down to Portland to relax and visit my family. On Saturday night, my mom (and Lindsay and Rich) and I made an amazing pasta dish inspired by this recipe. Mom bought three live crab from ABC Seafood. We cooked them and made them into an amazing creamy pasta sauce. Lindsay and I used my mom's pasta maker (the one that attaches to her Kitchen Aid) to make fresh tagliatelle pasta. We tossed the pasta with fresh spinach and topped it with the crab cream sauce, parmesan cheese, and a dash of black pepper. With a glass of chianti, I was in heaven!

I wish I had my camera out when my mom put the crab in the pot of boiling water!

Coming Together!

So this weekend I started developing my tie-dye fabric into a bag. I made my own bag pattern and chose a butterfly to applique on the purple tie-dye. And the bag is almost finished! All I need is to go buy a snap-closure thingy to sew into it. Check back next week, as I hope to have it finished by then!

I've been at an emotional low this week. Work felt draining. The gym made me ache. This week was the first time in a while that I've felt the pains of loneliness. For the past month I've been actually seeking and yearning for solitude. I've had the feeling of wanting to hide from the world and exist quietly with my cats and craft projects. I think I just needed some time to ruminate in the changes in my life and what I wanted for myself.

I've been thinking a lot about relationship and what it means to know someone. For the past 2 years that was something I intentionally avoided. I needed time to get to know myself and what I wanted. Now I feel like I'm finally ready to open myself up to other people and find companionship.

These are rockin!

Female Merit Badges by artist, Mary Yeager! When I saw this I was like, "Damn, why didn't I think of that?" I love the idea! And Mary's skill is astonishing.

Mary's badges are so beautifully detailed. This is how she explains her merit badge concept:

"My female merit badges illustrate female "rites of passage" as well as the myriad physical manipulations women undergo to achieve cultural ideals of beauty, such as weight watching, whether or not to shave or wear makeup, etc. I've created tiny replicas of female products, such as a birth control pill pack and a pregnancy test. The miniature scale and meticulous, hand-embroidered surfaces convey my impressions of growing up female in our culture."

Valentine

So the other day I decided to start a new project for Valentine's Day. I plan to applique the word LOVE and add some embroidered embellishments.

More Tie-Dye

Here are two more tie-dye experiments with blue/green/yellow color combos.

My next step is to develop a bag pattern that I like. I am still unsure of the shape I want to use.
