Jill Bliss ♥

Two years ago, when I first moved home to Portland after living in Seattle for 5 years, I took a drawing class from one of my favorite local artists, Jill Bliss. The class consisted of me, and 5 or 6 other girls meeting Jill in a park or coffee shop in SE Portland and drawing. She took us through a variety of different drawing exercises. Our subject always came from nature. A leaf, flower, plant, tree. After attending design school and working as a graphic designer in Seattle, it had been a long time since I had taken the time to sit down and draw. I had forgotten how calming and therapeutic it can be, especially when drawing nature.

A few weeks ago, Jill sent me an email saying that she had just finished her first book called, Nature Drawing: A Journal, based on the summer drawing class I took 2 years ago. As a thank you she sent a free copy of the book to all her original drawing students!

I thought it'd be fun to share with you some snippets from the book and also a few photos of the drawings I created while attending her class.

Receiving this book has made me want to go to a park and draw again. Perhaps once the weather is nice I'll start up a little drawing club :)
