Weekend Snapshots

Hi! I just wanted to share some fun snapshots from this weekend. I spent some time arranging my growing collection of stones and collected shells from the beach around my favorite drip candle. Sometimes all it takes is the simplest activity to brighten my spirits.
In need of some art therapy, I spent Sunday afternoon working in my art journal. It's a very intuitive process for me, and I try not to question or judge myself as I work in the pages. This is the place I feel truly free to experiment and explore parts of myself that are usually left in the shadows of my subconscious.
What did you do for fun over the weekend?

Sketchbook Doodles

I took a break last week from working on specific projects and did some doodling in my sketchbook instead. It's feels good to draw without a plan and just see what happens. I sorted out my markers and chose just the pinks and purples to work with and had some fun.

Art Journaling in Hawaii

Aloha! I just got home from a wonderful week in Oahu. James and I had SO much fun. Before I share some photos I thought I'd first show you the little art journal I worked in while we were there. There's nothing like lying on the beach in Waikiki with watercolors and a new journal!

I chose to use this little book James bought for me during his last trip home to San Diego...
It was definitely interesting working with handmade paper, especially with watercolors. But it ended up being a lot of fun. I enjoyed working on brown paper (rather than white).
The Royal Hawaiian is one of the oldest hotels in Waikiki and definitely my favorite. We didn't stay there (as it's SUPER fancy), but I camped out on the beach in front of it and we could see it from our hotel window. My favorite thing about the Royal Hawaiian is that everything about it is PINK! Everything from their cocktail napkins to chopstick wrappers.
On June 5 we were able to see the Transit of Venus! A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view venus as its passing between the sun and the earth. We had to look through a special card allowing us to look directly at the sun. This phenomena won't happen again for 105 years!
Actual photos from our trip are soon to come!

May Photo Diary

I can't believe this month is already over! I'm SO excited for summer. Here are some photos I've taken this month....
Art Journal Doodle
The St. John's Bizarre & Parade
This doggie enjoyed sitting in the shade of my tent while we watched the parade.
I planted a veggie garden! Can't wait to harvest lettuces, onion, squash, beans, tomatoes and more!
I also made some pots of herbs and flowers to put on my porch.
This is a photo of me in my grandma's garden. I only hope to one day have mine look so lush and beautiful!
Me getting ready to enjoy our first few days of summer weather! I'm wearing one of my new god's eye necklaces (to be added to my Etsy shop soon!) and a dress I bought at Macy's for $5.
Happy Hour at the Gold Dust Meridian on SE Hawthorne.
Progress on my newest painting, Just Be Yourself
A fun day of treats and thrifting with my friend Alissa.
(We shared this dessert at Pix.)
I just love this doll!

Sketchbook Art

Hello! I know I've been a little absent here lately, so I thought I'd share some of my latest art projects! First up- I've been doing some work in my art journal and finished a few more pages...
Here's another random doodle I did for the Sketchbook Project...
And last but not least, I just finished this watercolor painting that will soon be added to my Etsy shop as an art print!
I bought a fancy new watercolor set and have been LOVING it! Hope you all have a wonderful week!
Peace, Rachel
