I shared my Gramma's vintage valentine collection on the Vintage Smartypants blog today. I thought I share a few of my favorites here as well.

Vintage Smartypants
Happy New Year! One of the many things on my to-do list for 2014 is to start a digital archive of my obsession with vintage paper. My collection of vintage gift wrap, in particular, has grown quite large over the past few years and since I refuse to stop buying it whenever I'm out thrifting, I thought starting a new blog to share them with the world would give the collection a purpose. So I give you my new blog, Vintage Smartypants!
I'm going to try to add new things to it every week (and not just gift wrap, but also my vintage craft magazines, greeting cards, stationery and more!) so be sure to follow me and reblog :)

Inspiration: Suppose You Met A Witch
I've been oggling these illustrations from the book Suppose You Met A Witch illustrated by Ed Emberley published in 1973. The book is out of print now but I found these images on Oange's flickr. She describes the style as "Hippie Nouveau" and I just LOVE it.
Click through to Oange's flickr to see larger scans.

Vintage Stationery
I decided to dig out my vintage stationery to share with you all today! This is one of my favorite collections. I just love finding colorful new pieces when I'm out thrifting.
I was so excited when my mom found this piece of Lisa Frank stationery.
Saving the best for last - here are my three favorites! Love the retro floral patterns.

Vintage Christmas Trees
I've loved collecting vintage photos of Christmas trees this year. They seem so much more elaborate than our modern day Christmas trees (so much tinsel and trains!)
Something about seeing these vintage black and white photos really just draws me in. I can only imagine what these were like in real life!

Sunny Sunday
It's been bright and sunny here in Portland these last few days. It's such a nice change from our normal grey rain. I am just recovering from food poisoning (I was in bed for 3 days). Dinah and magazines kept me company, but I mostly slept and played a dumb iPhone game, Pocket Potions while I waited for the poison to leave my system so my stomach could heal.
Yesterday was the first day I felt well enough to venture out of my house. I made a trip to my favorite thrift store, Rerun and picked up some goodies...

I've been eyeing this piece of art for a few weeks now and decided to go for it. I just love the retro style of Daniel and the Lions- so adorable! On the back is written 1974 Israel. Now I just need to find a good home on my wall for it to hang.
I found this issue of Wimmen's Comix, an all-female underground comic from 1974.
In the evening, James and I took a walk through the neighborhood as the sun went down. I love walking through the neighborhoods of Portland, seeing all the different houses and people's yards. Makes me dream of having my own house some day. Afterwards we drove to Movie Madness on SE Belmont to find a weird movie to watch. I chose Times Square, which I had read about on Rookie Mag. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. It's an 1980's movie about two misfit teenage girls who run away together to form a punk band in New York.
Today I'm enjoying the sunshine from my window, catching up on work and my blog posts for next week. Hope you all are having a relaxing Sunday afternoon!
xo Rachel

This weekend I was flipping through my vintage craft magazines and found these amazing crochet summer fashions in a 1972 issue of Needle & Craft.

Smartypants Vintage: My latest vintage find.
Hello everyone! Hope you all had a fun weekend. Mine was spent spring cleaning, swing dancing, and making popcorn with my new Cuisinart popcorn maker (the best goodwill find ever!). I thought I'd share with you one of my latest vintage finds on Etsy. It is a school textbook of illustrated stories published in 1973. The artwork for each story is done by a different artist. I just love the different art styles and especially the hand-lettering.
The reason I jumped on buying this book is because my favorite artist, Peter Max illustrates the zodiac!
Hope you all have a great week! See you tomorrow with some Handmade Heaven.

Attic Jewelry & Onion Pie
Hello everyone! How was your weekend? Did you enjoy a relaxing Superbowl Sunday? I spent mine with my grandparents. I know, not the most exciting party, but I'm not too interested in football. While my grandpa watched the game, I ate homemade onion pie and sorted through boxes and boxes of jewelry my gramma brought out of the attic. It was so fun going through all of it. Some stuff was insanely ugly! But there were a few things that I liked. And a lot of stuff I'd like to try and remake into something else.
That's all I have to share with you today. I'll be back tomorrow with my Handmade Heaven feature - showcasing my latest favorite Etsy finds.

Vintage Finds
I thought I'd share my latest vintage finds. First was this complete Springbok Doll Craft Kit from 1970. The box is broken, but the kit is complete! I haven't made a doll since I was little. This will be a fun project! I'd love to collect all six kits!

Next I bought two issues of Venture magazine from 1966 and 1968. I love the retro advertisements.

My last find are these small wood prints. I haven't found a place to hang them up yet. But I'm sure they'll find a home on a wall soon.
