Young At Heart: Troll Dolls!

Remember playing with Troll Dolls?? Last weekend, I spent some time in my Mom's attic trying to dig up my troll doll collection. I managed to only find a few- including my Mom's own troll doll from when she was a little girl. She loved him so much, she gave him a haircut!
Troll dolls were one of the biggest toy fads in the USA from 1963- 1965. They were originally created in 1959 by Danish fisherman and woodcutter, Thomas Dam. Being too poor to buy a Christmas gift for his daughter, Lila, he carved the first troll doll from his imagination. Soon the other children in the town were requesting them and they began spreading across Europe and eventually made their way to the US. (source)
I used to love playing with my troll dolls! I especially loved (and wish I could still find) the tiny troll pencil toppers! They were so cute!

Young At Heart: Polly Pocket

Time for another Young At Heart feature! Last weekend I got out my Polly Pocket collection and had fun playing and taking photos. I love these original Polly Pockets and their tiny little dwellings. My sister and I would play with them for hours when we were little (along with Littlest Pet Shop).

Polly Pocket was first designed in 1983 by Chris Wiggs, for his daughter Kate. He transformed a powder makeup compact into a small house for a tiny doll. Bluebird Toys, a british toy company, licensed the concept and the first Polly Pocket toys appeared in store in 1989. In 1998, it was bought by Mattel and redesigned into a completely different toy.

Young At Heart: Lisa Frank

Some of you may remember my Young At Heart feature from last year (I did two posts, one on Figment the purple dragon and another on Rainbow Brite). For those of you who are new readers, Young At Heart is a feature where I share a favorite toy from my childhood. My mom and grandma save everything, so I still have all my favorite toy collections from when I was little.

Today I wanted to share my Lisa Frank collection. Ask any girl and she will know all about Lisa Frank's products. Her art is bright and colorful and features rainbows, puppies, unicorns, lipstick, ballerina bunnies, and tons more colorful cuteness. I remember having a massive sticker collection in grade school and would always choose the Lisa Frank notebooks when my mom took me shopping for school supplies.
As an adult, I still love Lisa Frank and even still buy her products (they've become a guilty pleasure of mine). For Christmas, my lovely sister got me two vintage Lisa Frank poster books full of all her earliest art from the 1980's.

You can find these poster books at www.lisafrankstore.com

Young At Heart: Rainbow Brite

Time for another Young At Heart feature! Young At Heart is one of my monthly features where I share a favorite toy from my childhood. (My mom and grandma save everything! So I still have all of my old toy collections!) Check out my last Young At Heart post here.

This month I'm featuring my Rainbow Brite doll! I got her when I was around 7 or 8 years old. I can't believe my mom saved the box. Rainbow Brite is a pretty amazing character and I remember loving her when I was young.

The Rainbow Brite Story: In a faraway place, right at the end of the rainbow, there is a magical kingdom where all the colors of the earth are created. The kingdom is called Rainbow Land, and living in this wonderful place is a lovable, creative little girl named Rainbow Brite. She uses the colors of the rainbow to make our world brighter and our hearts lighter.

I wish I had her horse, Starlight. Horse with rainbow hair?! Yes please...

Young At Heart

So I have a confession to make: I'm 26 years old and I still love toys! Growing up I had lots of different toy collections and I'm lucky enough to have a mom and grandma who both save everything! Some people may see this as a clutter problem, but I am so thankful that my mom has never thrown out any of my favorite childhood toys. It's so much fun to get them out now and *cough* (play with them again) *cough* and reminisce.

Because I've had such fun lately playing with toys, I thought I'd start a new monthly feature called, Young At Heart. Every month I will feature a toy from my childhood! You can probably guess that I don't think age should matter when it comes to toys. Just because I'm 26 doesn't mean I don't want to play with dolls! Haha!

The first toy I want to feature is this stuffed purple dragon named, Figment. Isn't he the cutest? I've had him since I was a baby. You can see his neck is a little broken, but he's still in pretty good condition. I think he might find a cozy spot to live on my bed ♥

Figment was made in 1982 by Disney. I did some research on him and learned that he was the mascot of the Imagination! pavillion at Epcot Center at Disneyworld. I'll have to ask my mom how I got this little guy. I wonder if someone bought it for me when they were visiting Disneyworld?

Dollhouses ♥

My sister, Teresa, sent me this cute video by Kate Nash. The dollhouse theme has inspired me to share some images I've been collecting. Dollhouses were definitely a part of my childhood. My sister had a barbie-fold-and-fun-house and I remember visiting my grandma and playing with her antique dollhouse. She would also make me mini quilts for my dolls. I still love dollhouses and the miniature things you can find/make to go inside them.

Dreamy Bedrooms ♥

I've always dreamed of the perfect bedroom. In high school, my absolute favorite part of Seventeen magazine was the room makeovers that readers would send in. I would cut them out and collect them and dream up what my perfect room makeover would be. I still have the clippings! Here were some of my favorites :)

(images from Seventeen Magazine 1998-2000)

I still dream of what my perfect bedroom would look like. I've always wanted a canopy bed. At age 25, my ultimate dream bed would look like this:

Here are some other amazing bedrooms. ♥
